I’m accustomed to life on the road but my recent 500+ mile trip had me on a very different set of wheels. This was a grueling week long bike trip across New York State to raise money for cancer research organized by the Empire State Ride. Drum roll...we raised 1 million dollars!
On my pretty Specialized Diverge bike (in mauve with lime accents) I zoomed past gridlocked traffic in New York City, climbed killer hills along the Hudson River against stubborn headwinds and peddled through blazing heat in one of the hottest weeks on record all the way to Niagara Falls.
I fell, I got up, I almost cried, I did cry, but despite the challenges, I learned that riding a bicycle brings me joy. Being on the bike focuses my mind in a way that music does for me. Music and cycling absorb the stress of life and clears space for feelings of gratitude to flood in. The sound of the wind swirling around my ears as I rocket down a monster hill is just as exhilarating as the sound of a beautiful melody. My heart beats for biking and music.
I'm now looking forward to our next run of European dates. We'll be making our way across the UK in September, will tour Norway, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland in October and back to the UK in November. Here are the dates:
